Currently, Fitriani has chances to face #1 Indian women's singles, Saina Nehwal, who is also the three time champion of the BCA Indonesia Open Superseries Premier. However, she has to wait for a result from a
mathc played by Saina Nehwal and Taiwanese Pai Yu Po. Previously, Fitriani met Saina at the Badminton Asia Championships 2016 where Saina defeated her, 21-16 and 21-17.
“I have to give all of my best if I face Saina. She is a senior player, I must be more patient and maintain speed. Facing a top player is OK, I cab measure how far I can go," Ftriani said.
Fitriani was qualified to the second round after defeating a derby match. She stunned her compatriot, Gregoria Mariska, 21-14, 13-21, and 21-16.
“Facing a friend gives certain pressure, but I know how Gregoria playes since we are in the same training ground. I was losing concentration in the second game. I also wasted many opportunities due to wind factor," she said after the match.
So far, Indonesia has placed two of its representatives in the women's singles, they are Fitriani and Febby Angguni. There is still another chance to add one more player from Maria Febe Kusumastuti who will take on Tai Tzu Ying in their first match.
