JAKARTA - Through a rubber game, Chinese pair Xu Chen/Ma Jin succeeded in defending their title in the mixed doubles of the BCA Indonesia Open Super Series Premier 2016. The #5 seeded pair defeated Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na (Korea), with 21-15, 16-21, 21-13.

The victory improves Xu/Ma's head to head record against Ko/Kim to become 2-4. In this match, Xu/Ma handled Ko/Kim's speed very well whose speed oftentimes gave the 2012 London Olympic silver medalist troubles.

“In the second game, the Korean pair played with a faster tempo, so we were troubled and we made mistakes. We played good enough in the third game," Xu said after the match.

“I feel like old already, I am 31 years old, I am prone to illnesses,” Xu commented on his decrease in performance. Meanwhile, Ko/Kim said that they are still inferior in forward play. Ko/Kim's rotary also didn't run smoothly.

“We were lacking self confidence when playing near the net, many of the Xu/Ma's attacks penetrated our defense," Kim said.

In the first match, the women's doubles title was won by Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi from Japan. The first seed stunned Yu Yang/Tang Yuanting from China, 21-15, 8-21, 21-15.
